And now, this. Paul Wolofwitz is another one of GWB’s formidable chums to reach high places in a weeks time. And again, some people just can’t celebrate it.
The nominee to head The World Bank, values things American. In an official memorandum, Mr Wolfowitz stated: The Army Chief of Staff has determined that US troops shall not wear berets made in China or berets made with Chinese content.
. It’s important to have values and firm opinions.
Wolfowitz, labelled a hawkish neo-conservative
strongly supported the invasion of Iraq in 2003. He is the principal author of the “Wolfowitz doctrine”, also known as the Bush doctrine. Wolofwitz was military analyst under Ronald Reagan and ambassador in Indonesia in 1986–89.
I think all foreigners should stop interfering in the internal affairs of Iraq. Those who want to come and help are welcome. Those who come to interfere and destroy are not.
– Paul Wolofwitz, Press conference in Mosul, Iraq (July 21, 2003)
For balance, Paul Wolofwitz supports the creation of a Palestinian state, despite his support for Israel (Wolfowitz has family, including a sister, in Israel). In addition, Wolfowitz has been a notable backer of Iranian dissidents for more than 15 years (source: Wikipedia).
Mr. Wolofwitz really seems suited for an organization that helps to finance rebuilding the world. Notable quotes from before the Iraq invasion (so they can’t be exactly representative now) regarding the size and cost of the post war occupation force, To assume we’re (the USA) going to pay for it all is just wrong
and ,I would expect that even countries like France will have a strong interest in assisting Iraq in reconstruction.
, do show that Mr. Wolofwitz sincerely has a sense of international cooperation in monetary affairs. Amen.
Now only Ringo is missing from the equation. Stay tuned.
