Spiffy. Mike Walters built himself a budget Mellotron with fourteen parallel Walkmans (walkmen?) which he, logically, calls the Melloman. The Melloman costs less than a Mellotron and thank heaven, weighs less than a Mellotron. It doesn’t however have the credibility of a Mellotron, but then, that probably is not the driving force of a man who makes instruments for Devo… Unlike the Mellotron, the Melloman works with 60 minute tapes, so you can play notes longer than the original eight seconds, but then again, you’d have to rewind the Melloman after playing a decent prog track. On the tapes, Mike has sampled original Mellotron sounds, and it all sounds rather authentic for such a device!
