Chega: Enough

Tom Gallagher of the San Francisco Bay Guardian wrote a strong article about the lack of attention the CAVR Report (aka the “Chega!” report, or “Final Report of the Commission for Reception, Truth and Reconciliation in East Timor”) has received in the USA. This 2500 page document, presented to Kofi Annan in late February 2006, reports about the injustice in Timor-Leste during the Indonesian occupation.
Truth is that the document hasn’t stirred nearly enough attention anywhere else either. Keep the pressure on.
If 2500 pages is a little hefty for you, try the press release at ICTJ. Also, the article mentions one of my favourite neo-conservatives, World Bank president Paul Wolfowitz (also mentioned on Navelfluff before). And Tom Gallagher worked as an UN election official during the 1999 “independence elections”, so he should know.
