Genesis @ Helsinki 11-Jun-2007

Genesis, the old band of dinosaurs, will start their world tour Turn it on again in Helsinki on the 11th of June next summer (yeah i know, i had an error in the header before. They play next summer, not last summer). Tix go on sale on the 20th of November at 09:00 at Lippupalvelu. Genesis 2007 features Rutherford, Banks and Collins (”And then they were three… again”?). Ray Wilson is out of the picture, which is a shame in my humble opinion. Wilson has done some really agreeable stuff after Genesis (and some funny stuff before) and is back working with Stiltskin too. Hackett and Gabriel decided they had other things to do. Thompson, however, will be back on duty.
I had the honour of interviewing the band when they were in Finland last time, with the “little Ray of light” on vocals. Muy cool. I wonder if i still have the interview disks anywhere…

  1. Ray Wilson is a total waste of space.

  2. Oh i wouldn’t say that. Sure, he didn’t really feel like he was a part of the band when i met him at the press conf, but i do think he did a worthy job. I just think he was a bit too young for it.

I do admit that the Calling all stations album was a bit uneven (The Dividing Line is my favourite, much of the rest is so-and-so), but i wouldn’t go as far as saying he was a waste of space.

Have you heard any of Wilson’s recent solo stuff? I’d still say it’s quite agreeable :)

  3. Can only say, after seeing the Helsinki concert yesterday, that Phil is back! He’s IMHO almost a waste of space solo (with the exception of the first album…) but as part of Genesis he is essential.

The lineup where he was absent was essentially a cover band featuring Tony and Mike, and the songs live all sounded just like that… covers…

Do believe me when I say that Phil Collins’ voice was in better shape now than during the 1992 We Can’t Dance Tour! He takes on all the material like he was still twentysomething… and pulls it off!

I was astonished… Go to a show if you can!
