Slugged

I’m a bit behind posts but let’s not make that a problem. A week or two ago, a new computer entered the family: a Slug, or properly, a LInksys NSLU2 NAS adapter thingy.

The Slug is basically an adapter between one or two USB hard (or flash) drives and a wired Ethernet. Or so it was planned by the Linksysians. For the Slug runs Linux, and it is hackable.

Currently my Slug (named Bun-Bun — if i ever get another it shall be named Kiki) packs a 250G hard disk, runs mrtg, thttpd with PHP (and i’m considering sqlite), ntp, sshd, rsync and the ushare which is a UPnP media sharing server. At the same time i realized that there is no proper UPnP media client but Geexbox, but it does look promising and i’m sure there’ll be more client soon. Geexbox btw worked fine, and i’ll probably write some more about it another day.

At the end of the week, i’ll add another 400G of disk space so so i can mirror the most important stuff (with automatic snapshots, if i ever get that far).
