Presidential elections in Timor-Leste quite calm

José Ramos-Horta casting his vote (AlertNet)Much to my surprise, the presidential elections in Timor-Leste were featured in both the newspapers we subscribe to at home (Hbl, HS). It doesn’t seem unlikely that there will be a second round (meaning no candidate got over 50% of the votes cast), and it seems equally likely that my forner boss José Ramos-Horta will be a candidate on that second round. Current president Xanana Gusmão is not running for re-election.

My friend Mad and the AlertNet agree that the elections were mostly calm. While there may be clashes when the results are published, i certainly hope the calm will keep.
