Ramos-Horta to win election

According to entirely unofficial information from a completely undisclosed individual with hidden connections to the Commission of election in Timor-Leste, José Ramos-Horta has got 155.678. votes against Lu’Ulo 45.656 votes.

The official results will be out tomorrow.

My minuscule analysis of the (forthcoming) result is that with the relations JRH has to Australia, he’s probably a slightly better choice for president than Lu’Olo. Especially when you factor in the neverending negotiations about the oil fields between Australia and Timor-Leste. OK, so it’s not exactly the president’s job to handle those negotiations, but rather the minister of foreign affairs and co-operations… a little like our Paavo Väyrynen (Shudder! I would phear the situation where the future of my country weighs on Paavo Väyrynen).

In March 2006, Ramos-Horta told that he’d rather be president or TL than sec-gen of the UN. Well, sir, my early congratulations to you!
