Fluff-fluff

Finemang!

Schweet. There is a font called Navelfluff. It’s nice and fuzzy but boy it must be heavy as a vectored font. In fact, there are two variants of the font, one with much fuzz and one with even more.

The font family is priced at 75€, so it’s not like i’m going to purchase it. A sample text “Navelfluff” would be nice though for a blog header :)

My CDN provider changed services without my noticing, so this site has seemed down for a while

Things should be back to normal now. Thanks to me dear wife (who otherwise never reads this blog) for informing!

(<geek>In fact, it wasn’t the site, but rather that images and CSS files never were delivered. I’ve done the necessary changes on the backline, but it’ll take a while before the DNS updates have propagated around the intertubes, so this blog will have to stand alone until then.</geek>)

Navelfluff vaihtaa domain-nimi-palveluntarjoajaa. Saatamme hetkeksi poistua tutkalta.

Navelfluff is changing domain name registrar. We might be off the radar for a while. Oh, and a good Friday the 13th :)

Fans or spammers?

Lately i’ve been receiving new registered users on Navelfluff on a near-daily pace. This is something new for me, but instead of being flattered, i find this slightly unnerving. Am i really getting all these real and registered users on my blog or do we have a spambot registering itself for malicious activity?

While i have Bad Behaviour and Kismet installed to thwart most spam comments, i still don’t like the thought of having extra load of potential baddies on board. If you new guys would be ever so kind to actually send me a comment, say to this posting, so i know that you are humans?

Thanks.

Kvällens jouröl ör en kul butelj med Bad King John, A Very English Black Ale. Och visst är den mörk. Nästan svart. Wow.

Bara nåt litet ting, ens i onomatopoetisk mening.

I just read an article Scott Hanselman wrote about blogging. One of the important things were that he counts the success of his blog in how much of a dialogue he gets with his users.

As i get hardly no feedback at all (even when i’m writing about politics and/or religion), i just thought i’d have a look at my stats. And the stats gave me some comfort.

On average, i’m visited by about twenty human visitors a day. Thank you all! Now i know you’re there even if you are of the silent kind. Now the next step for you is to say hi! Come on! It’s not that hard. There’s a nice big box that you can do so in if you just scroll a few lines down after this posting.

The second rather nice finding is that 27% of these visitors (that’s about six daily) are actually returning visitors! Hello, you unknown friends! I love you! Now come on, don’t be shy, say hello! This is like Vem ska trösta knyttet? but in reverse (actually, it’s a bit from Fish’s Vigil: “If there’s somebody out there, could they thrown me down a line?”)

Last, but not least, i want to send out a big wave to my visitors from countries from which they are the only visitor: Hong Kong, China (uh-huh), Austria, Portugal, South Africa, Australia, Philippines, Syria, Belgium, Morocco, New Zealand, Timor-Leste (the country previously known as East Timor), Iceland, Switzerland, Serbia and Montenegro (aren’t you two different countries these days?), Cambodia, Czech Republic and Slovenia!

Update: Scott Hanselman actually posted a comment to this entry — i’m famous! :)

Shucked!

A bit over a year ago, i posted a story where i had been approached by one or more members of the Shuck family in the belief that i was Lauren Shuck.

To recap, i was sent an invitation to join the Shuck Family’s group on Yahoo! groups and i was sent a gift card to the iTunes music store. I sent the group inviter a friendly message that despite the similarity with the names, i alas was not the Lauren he was looking for (makes Jedi mind trick hand movement).

I never got a reply (though my invitation was quickly revoked).

I tried finding the person who sent me the iTunes gift card, and i tried mailing all the Lauren Shucks i could find. No reply.

I finally contacted Apple, who said something the equivalent of “Oh.”

No thankyous, no kudos for the honesty, no just cash it in and enjoy the music and no info on whether either the recipient or the giver was located.

So ends the recap.

But presto. The story just changed today, when The Lauren Shuck finds my blog by Google magic and reports that she indeed does exist! Rejoice at being connected! All hail the church of Google :) .

This is why the Internet was made. Warms and fuzzies all around.

This posting is just to announce that i installed a sitemap generator plugin for WordPress to Navelfluff. The plugin starts chunking away once i’ve actually written a new post. So it might just as well be this one.
